Opportunity Overview
Handshake is recruiting CAD designers with experience in computer-aided design tools such as LibreCAD, SolveSpace, Rhino3D, and OpenSCAD to contribute to an AI research project. In this project, you’ll apply your expertise to help improve how AI understands real-world professional tasks within your domain, such as 2D drafting, parametric 3D modeling, technical drawings, and design for fabrication. This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.
What You’ll Do
- Use your CAD experience to create tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve based on real workflows, such as 2D drafting and dimensioning, parametric and constraint-based modeling, scripted solid modeling, assemblies, and export for 3D printing, CNC, or laser cutting
- Review and evaluate AI-generated responses
- Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
- Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement
Qualifications
- Degree: Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Tool experience: At least 2 years of work experience using one or more of the following tools:
- LibreCAD
- SolveSpace
- OpenSCAD
- Rhino3D
Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application)
- Experience across multiple CAD tools or workflows, such as FreeCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, or familiarity with GD&T, technical drawing standards, or scripting and programmatic design
- Professional experience at a manufacturer, architecture or engineering firm, or product design studio, or a portfolio of published or fabricated designs
Required for all applicants
- Must have US work authorization
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Ability to explain complex CA
